Heroes — both expected and unexpected — are needed more than ever, as the star-studded Phoenix Suns attempt to avoid the unthinkable in missing the 2024 NBA Playoffs. On March 4, 2025, during a historic 19-point fourth quarter comeback that, in some ways, breathed life into Phoenix’s season, the request went fulfilled by undrafted second-year guard Collin Gillespie. Stacking crunchtime plays together, one after another, Gillespie, as if waiting for this type of moment for a lifetime, prepares for one of his biggest, first by sneaking atop the 3-point arc in hopes of clearing space for his All-NBA teammate. Squared into his stance before a kick-out pass even arrives, Gillespie introduces the L.A. Clippers to his clutch gene, burying a cold-blooded triple to extend the Suns’ lead to five in the final half-minute. Keying a come-from-behind win by scoring all of his points in the final period, Gillespie finished with 10 points (on four-of-six shooting), two rebounds, three assists, and two 3-pointers.
